Pakistani leader Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Monday after serving a two-year sentence. Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza, a prominent scholar, spoke to Geo News about the conditions inside the jail, stating that Khan was well-treated and had access to newspapers, including two dailies. Mirza claimed that Khan’s room had a LED TV and six comfortable beds, with five of them in use by the former prime minister and the sixth one used by his personal trainer.
According to Mirza, Khan would venture out of his cell twice a day to fetch breakfast at 9 am and lunch at 3 pm. The scholar also revealed that Khan’s personal trainer would massage him with desi ghee, which would fill their cells with a pleasant aroma. Mirza further stated that Khan would often get agitated and speak loudly, but this was not unusual for someone serving a two-year sentence.
Mirza’s comments come as the PTI party struggles to maintain its relevance in the wake of a recent SSP operation in Peshawar, which led to the arrest of several party activists. In a statement, the PTI party accused the government of conspiring against them and asked its supporters to stay calm. However, Engineer Mirza’s revelations have sparked a controversy, with many questioning the PTI party’s claims of persecution.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has hailed the country’s recent victory in the war against terrorism, stating that it has earned a new status on the global stage. The ambassador emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the country’s pressing issues.
In other news, a police surgeon has revealed that the bodies of four robbers killed in a shootout with police in Rawalpindi’s Sabzi Mandi area were several days old, with signs of torture visible on the face and neck of one of the victims. The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the court has summoned witnesses to testify on January 10.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for severe fog in several parts of the country, warning of a significant impact on daily life and transportation.
