The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued an official notification suspending the membership of 28 provincial assembly members. The notification states that it is mandatory for senators and assembly members to submit their statements of assets and liabilities by December 31 every year. As per the rules and regulations, the Election Commission is bound to act on January 16.
The suspended provincial assembly members include Hameedullah, Shehbaz Khan, Muhammad Rashad Khan, Abadullah, and Zahid Chan Zeb. Akramullah, Nazir Ahmed Abbasi, Murtaza Khan, Zarehshad Khan, Muhammad Zaher Shah, Hisham Ali, Khalid, Arbab Waseem, Samiullah, Zahid Khan, and Malik Tariq Awan have also had their membership suspended.
In addition, Zar Alam Khan, Mian Muhammad Omar, Ashfaq Ahmed, Shah Abu Turab, Muhammad Sajjad, Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Hasham Inamullah, and Asif Khan have been suspended. The suspended members include four female members elected on reserved seats, Afshan Hussain, Jamila Pracha, Syeda Sonya Shah, and Khadija Bibi.
The Election Commission states that the suspended members’ membership will be restored once they submit their statements of assets and liabilities. The government is making all necessary arrangements to ease the situation, with the Ministry working to reduce the difficulties faced by the public. Sindh Chief Minister Mustafa Kamal has directed the Additional IG to submit a daily report on the progress of the case.
