The Viral Trap of Misinformation
LAHORE – Pakistani actress Meera has once again captured the media spotlight, this time unintentionally, after she fell victim to a false report regarding the death of Bollywood legend Dharmendra. The actress quickly shared a post on social media expressing her deep condolences, underscoring the pervasive challenge of unverified information in the digital age.
Actress Meera has a reputation for attracting media attention, often through spontaneous or ill-advised actions. On this occasion, when rumours and fake news about Dharmendra’s demise circulated across the Indian media landscape, the actress failed to verify the claims before reacting publicly.
Condolences Shared Despite Rebuttals
Earlier today, major Indian media websites, including Hindustan Times, India Today, ABP News, and News 18, along with various social media platforms, rapidly spread the false news of Dharmendra’s passing.
Crucially, the news was swiftly and emphatically denied by the actor’s wife, actress Hema Malini, and his daughter, actress Esha Deol. Despite these official rebuttals, actress Meera proceeded to accept the false reports as fact. She took to her Instagram account to share a picture of the Bollywood legend and posted a message of sorrow over his alleged demise, making her the subject of public discussion once again due to the hasty mistake.
