The remains of six Pakistani nationals, tragically deceased in a boat accident off Libya’s Zawiya coast, arrived in Islamabad on Thursday. The Pakistani government facilitated the return, with the Pakistani mission in Tripoli completing necessary formalities.
These six were among 16 Pakistani victims recovered after a boat carrying about 65 passengers capsized near Marsa Dela port, northwest of Zawiya City. 37 Pakistanis survived the incident.
Housing and Works Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada received the bodies, ensuring their transfer to their respective hometowns. Pirzada expressed condolences, stating the government’s support for the bereaved families. He pledged to repatriate the remaining deceased and facilitate the return of the 37 survivors.
Pirzada cautioned against illegal means of reaching Europe, urging youth to use legal channels. Facilitation desks and ambulances were arranged at the airport to assist families in transporting the remains to Peshawar.
The repatriated individuals were Musawir Hussain, Shoaib Ali, Muhammad Ali Shah, Abid Hussain, Musab Hussain, and Shoaib Hussain, all from the Kurram and Orakzai regions. Their bodies were handed over to their families.
The Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) coordinated the onward transportation of the bodies. A medical team was also present to support the grieving families. The government reiterated its commitment to supporting the affected families and ensuring the safe repatriation of all Pakistani victims.
