Pakistan’s National Assembly witnessed a heated confrontation between members of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday. PTI lawmakers, including Akbar Afridi and Khurram Shehzad, clashed outside the Parliament gates, exchanging blows and shoving each other. Afridi alleged that the operation in his constituency was being hindered by PTI traitors who refused to let him speak on the issue in the Assembly. He also accused Barrister Goher of orchestrating the incident, claiming that he was being framed for nefarious purposes.
The situation was brought under control after Chief Secretary Zahid Zaman and other officials arrived on the scene, and a rescue operation was launched to separate the warring lawmakers. In a separate incident, the Pakistan Navy successfully conducted a long-range rescue operation in the Indian Ocean.
In Lahore, a 20-kilo gold smuggling case was solved, and the suspect was arrested at the Achharah Sunar Market. Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Senator Rana Sanaullah, suggested that Pakistan should take a firm stance alongside Bangladesh in the matter of the T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) conducted a survey of buildings in three districts of Karachi, following the devastating fire at the Gulf Plaza. The Chief of Naval Staff, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, criticized the 18th Amendment, calling it a “deadly poison.”
In a separate development, over 3,000 dog-biting cases have been reported in Karachi since January 1. Rights activist and lawyer Iman Mazari and her husband, Hadia Ali Chatha, were sentenced in a contentious Twitter case.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Pakistan’s membership in the Gaza Board of Peace, hoping for a peaceful resolution in the Gaza Strip.
