The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heatwave conditions across the country starting next due to the formation of a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere from April 13th.
According to the Met Office, most parts of the country will experience a rise in temperatures, with the southern regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, expected to face severe heatwave conditions beginning April 14th.
Daytime temperatures in these areas may remain 6-8°C above the normal range from April 13th to 18th.
In the northern and central regions — encompassing upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir — temperatures are forecasted to be 4-6°C above normal from April 14th to 18th.
Night-time temperatures are also anticipated to remain higher than usual throughout the forecast period.
The extreme heat may also lead to dust storms and windstorms, potentially causing damage to vulnerable infrastructure such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels.
The general public, especially children, women, and senior citizens, are advised to avoid direct sun exposure and maintain adequate hydration.
Farmers are also urged to manage their agricultural activities, particularly wheat harvesting, in accordance with the forecast, and to ensure the safety of their livestock.
Rising temperatures in northern areas may cause accelerated snowmelt between April 14th and 18th, increasing the risk of flooding.
All relevant authorities have been instructed to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to mitigate any potential risks.
