Pakistan has accepted the invitation to join the Board of Peace for a lasting peace in Gaza, said a Foreign Office spokesperson. The invitation was extended to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by US President Donald Trump. Pakistan has announced its support for the Gaza peace plan under UN Security Council Resolution 2803, and the Board of Peace aims to take practical steps for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan will maintain contact with the international community for a lasting peace in Gaza. Pakistan emphasized the need for increasing humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people, and expressed hope for the effective implementation of the reconstruction process in Gaza. Pakistan reiterated its strong support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, and supports the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state. The Foreign Minister said that there is complete harmony and clear consensus between the civil and military leadership on this issue. It has been decided that Pakistan cannot take part in any military operation. The Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan’s position is that the Palestinian state should be based on the pre-1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital. Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people and hopes for practical progress towards peace on the Board of Peace platform.
It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump announced the formation of the Gaza Board of Peace on January 17, which includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Steve Wickett, Trump’s Middle East representative, World Bank President Ajay Banga, Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, among others. The formation of the Gaza Board of Peace is part of Trump’s peace plan, which aims to ensure coordination between security, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction plans, and to pave the way for reforms in the Palestinian Authority and government.
