Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory from January 31 to February 4, warning of unseasonal rain and snowfall in various parts of the country.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, Punjab is expected to experience cold and dry weather, while Mera, Galiyat, and Potohar regions may see light rain and snowfall from January 31 to February 3. In most parts of Balochistan, cold and dry weather is anticipated, while northern and central Balochistan may see light rain and snowfall by February 1.
The weather advisory also warns of cold and dry weather in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s plain areas, with a possibility of light rain and snowfall in upper and northern areas by February 3. Sindh may experience fog due to cold and dry weather, while Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to face severe cold and fog, with intermittent snowfall and freezing temperatures in upper regions until February 4.
Residents in Chitral, Dir, Kalash, Naran, Kaghan, Gilgit, and Hunza may face concerns of avalanches and landslides. Possible landslides are also a concern in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Mer, and Galiyat due to potential snowfall. Travelers in mountainous regions are advised to exercise caution and take necessary precautions during snowfall.
In Derah Gazi Khan, all routes from Punjab to Balochistan have been closed. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed support for Pakistan’s government and people in their fight against terrorism. Rescue and firefighting efforts are underway in various parts of the country.
