Tensions flared at a United Nations Security Council meeting as Pakistan delivered a categorical response to what it described as “baseless allegations” made by the Indian delegate.
Qaiser Sarwani, a counselor at the Pakistani mission, took the floor to assert that India’s occupation of Jammu and Kashmir is “illegal.” He reminded the council that it was India that originally brought the Kashmir issue to the Security Council, but it has now “reneged on its promises.”
Sarwani raised serious concerns about the human rights situation in “occupied Kashmir,” alleging ongoing Indian military atrocities, the existence of mass graves, and a pattern of forced disappearances.
He further expanded his criticism, alleging that minorities within India—including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Dalits—are also facing oppression. The Pakistani counselor condemned what he called the “fascist Hindutva ideology,” claiming it has “turned India into a factory of hate,” and demanded that India implement the relevant Security Council resolutions.
