Pakistan was fined 25% of their match fee and penalized five ICC World Test Championship points for maintaining a slow over-rate against South Africa in the Cape Town Test.
The sanction was imposed by Emirates ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Richie Richardson after Pakistan was found to be five overs short of the target, considering time allowances.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, a 5% fine of the match fee is applied for each over a team fails to bowl within the allotted time, while one point is deducted from the World Test Championship standings for each over short.
Pakistan’s captain, Shan Masood, admitted to the offense and accepted the proposed sanction, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
The Proteas secured a dominant 10-wicket win, sweeping the two-match series 2-0.
Despite the defeat, Pakistan showed resilience, with Shan Masood leading the team with a fine 145 in the second innings.
Masood expressed hope for better consistency in the upcoming home series against the West Indies, starting on January 17.
