Pakistan has vehemently condemned the escalating instances of Islamophobia in India, urging New Delhi to take prompt measures to safeguard the well-being and entitlements of its Muslim populace. In a statement released on Saturday, the Foreign Office conveyed profound disquiet regarding what it described as the “state-sponsored targeting” of Muslims in India, citing a surge in hate speech, discrimination, and religious intolerance. “Pakistan is deeply concerned about the growing Islamophobia in India, where Muslims are being systematically targeted through hate speech and social exclusion,” stated the Foreign Office spokesperson. The spokesperson underscored that the pattern of inciting religious animosity for political gains not only jeopardizes India’s internal cohesion but also constitutes a grave contravention of international human rights conventions. “Religious harmony and regional stability are being severely undermined,” the spokesperson observed, adding that the international community must acknowledge the deteriorating human rights situation in India. The statement also emphasized India’s obligation to uphold its constitutional duty to protect the rights of all citizens, irrespective of their religious affiliation. “In the current circumstances, there is an urgent need for reconciliation, inclusivity, and the promotion of tolerance to prevent further alienation of Muslim communities in India,” the spokesperson articulated. The Foreign Office called upon India to abandon divisive policies and uphold democratic principles to foster peaceful coexistence in the region. Pakistan has consistently voiced concerns at international forums regarding the treatment of minorities in India, particularly since the ascendancy of Hindu nationalist factions. Human rights organizations have also highlighted the diminishing scope for religious freedom and the rise in anti-Muslim sentiment across the nation.
