Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated during an interview with German television at the Munich Security Conference that Pakistan has the potential to act as a bridge between the United States and China.
“Going forward, we’d like to see ourselves as a country that can bridge that gap rather than increase that division,” said the PPP chairman.
Bilawal emphasized Pakistan’s longstanding role in fostering diplomatic ties and noted that some nations were exploiting the competitive relationship between Washington and Beijing.
“There are some countries that are profiting or benefiting from the fact that the United States and China are increasingly competitive, but Pakistan has always maintained a different position,” he said.
Hope for Improved Relations with India
Bilawal also expressed optimism about improving ties with India, stating that peace or at least trade relations were possible.
Comments on Donald Trump
Speaking about US President Donald Trump, Bilawal described him as a “dealmaker” and suggested that Pakistan could successfully engage with him.
Pakistan’s Internal Politics
Last week, the former foreign minister also addressed Pakistan’s internal political landscape, attributing the youth’s disillusionment with politics to former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He stated that while generations had struggled for democracy, Khan had damaged the system for personal gains.
Security Situation and Counterterrorism Measures
Discussing Pakistan’s security situation, Bilawal stressed the need for national consensus to combat terrorism, particularly in light of the new government in Kabul, which he claimed had led to a rise in terrorist incidents in Pakistan.
He called for political stability and strategic policymaking to tackle the country’s growing challenges.
Institutions Must Operate Within Constitutional Limits
Bilawal reaffirmed the PPP’s stance that all institutions must function within their constitutional limits.
