The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a major leadership change, appointing fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain of the national ODI team. This move brings Mohammad Rizwan’s tenure as the one-day skipper to an end.
Shaheen Afridi’s first assignment as captain will be the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. The series is scheduled to be played from November 4 to November 8 at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.
The decision to appoint Shaheen was finalized during a high-level meeting in Islamabad. The meeting included Head Coach Mike Hesson, Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed, and members of the national selection committee.
The left-arm fast bowler has been a key player for Pakistan across all formats. He has represented the country in 66 ODIs, 92 T20Is, and 32 Test matches, securing a total of 249 white-ball wickets and 120 Test wickets.
This is not Shaheen’s first time in a leadership role for the national side. He previously captained Pakistan in a five-match T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year.
