Islamabad: Pakistan and Canada have initiated discussions to enhance cooperation in key agricultural areas, signaling a new phase of partnership. The collaboration will focus on developing hybrid seeds, improving livestock breeding, and advancing animal feed formulation.
This development comes as the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is actively working to modernize Pakistan’s agricultural sector. Both Federal Minister for Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Canadian High Commissioner, Tariq Ali Khan, have expressed a strong commitment to making this cooperation a reality.
During the discussions, the Federal Minister also put forward proposals for joint ventures aimed at the local manufacturing of agricultural machinery.
The cultivation of canola is being highlighted as a significant opportunity within this partnership. It is expected to not only innovate agricultural production but also significantly increase farmers’ income and open up new access to global markets for Pakistani products.
To move these plans forward, both nations have agreed to form a joint working group. This group will be responsible for addressing key areas such as certification, market access, and technical support.
Officials are optimistic that the SIFC’s effective policies are successfully building foreign investor confidence. This partnership with Canada is seen as a vital step in further stabilizing Pakistan’s economy and boosting its exports on the global stage.
