Bahrain’s Interior Minister, Lieutenant General Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, has arrived in Pakistan for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Upon his arrival in the federal capital, the Bahraini dignitary was received by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry. A contingent of Islamabad Police presented a salute, after which the minister visited the Pakistan Monument to pay tribute to the martyrs.
The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas, including human trafficking, counter-narcotics, security, and counter-terrorism. These discussions are a continuation of the dialogue initiated during Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s visit to Bahrain in July, where both sides had agreed to deepen security cooperation and make the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Security Committee more effective.
Recent Developments in Bilateral Ties
High-level engagements between the two countries have been frequent this year. In February, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed a desire to increase trade volume during a meeting with a Bahraini parliamentary delegation. In March, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir met with the Commander of the National Guard, General Shaikh Mohamed bin Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa. Recent reports also indicate that Bahrain has expressed interest in learning from the Pakistan Air Force’s multi-domain operational expertise.
This visit by Bahrain’s Interior Minister comes at a time of concerted efforts to strengthen cooperation across various sectors. The meetings will involve key officials from both sides, who are expected to discuss practical measures to tackle shared challenges.
