The Airport Security Force (ASF) thwarted an attempt to smuggle local and foreign currency worth over Rs20 million to Canada and arrested a passenger at Karachi airport.
According to officials, the arrested individual, identified as Irfanul Haq, was scheduled to travel to Toronto when ASF personnel intercepted him.
During routine baggage screening, ASF experts identified the passenger’s luggage as suspicious.
A subsequent manual search of the bag led to the recovery of $70,000, 2,200 Canadian dollars, and Rs160,000. Passengers are only permitted to carry up to $10,000 in foreign currency while traveling abroad.
Authorities stated that the total value of the seized local and foreign currency exceeded Rs20 million.
The smuggling attempt was successfully prevented, and the suspect was taken into custody. He, along with the recovered currency, has been handed over to Customs officials for further investigation and legal proceedings.
