OQ Gas Networks (OQGN), the sole operator of Oman’s Natural Gas Transmission Network, has launched the Saib Project, a 208 km gas pipeline in the Dhofar Governorate.
The OMR76 million initiative is designed to boost the gas network’s capacity by 60% to meet growing energy demands in the region.
Project Overview and Advantages
The Saib Project features two loops spanning 208 km, with enhancements including six extended block valve stations and three new launching and receiving stations.
The expansion will increase the network’s capacity from 10 million to 16 million cubic meters per day. Over the past decade, OQGN has achieved a 99.9% gas availability rate, transporting around 40 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
Eng. Mansoor Ali Al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, stated: “The Saib Project’s inauguration marks a significant milestone for our company, addressing the rising gas demand in Dhofar and reflecting our commitment to local communities and economic development aligned with Oman Vision 2040.”
He further emphasized, “This project enhances Oman’s natural gas infrastructure, supports Dhofar’s growing energy needs, and demonstrates our dedication to sustainable growth and clean energy transition.”
Additionally, the project has focused on developing national talent and upholding health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices, achieving over three million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury.
