OpenAI plans to release “Strawberry,” its new reasoning-focused artificial intelligence, within the next two weeks, according to The Information. This development was reported by two individuals who have tested the model.
Under the leadership of Sam Altman, OpenAI has spurred significant interest and investment in AI, with businesses eager to leverage the technology to enhance their products. Backed by Microsoft, OpenAI recently announced over 1 million paying users for its business products, driven by the success of its advanced chatbot.
Unlike other conversational AIs, Strawberry distinguishes itself by its ability to “think” before responding, rather than providing immediate answers. This feature represents a novel approach to AI models, as previously reported by Reuters in July under the project code-named Strawberry.
While Strawberry will be integrated into ChatGPT, it will initially be available as a standalone offering. The first version of Strawberry will be text-only and will not support images, making it non-multimodal at launch.
Microsoft and OpenAI have yet to respond to requests for further comment.
