Chawla Says Immediate Joint Action Plan Needed for Fine Payments
Sindh Minister for Excise Mukesh Kumar Chawla has warned that from April 3 onwards, only vehicles with new Ajrak-designed number plates will be acceptable across the province.
These remarks were made during an implementation meeting chaired by Chawla, who also oversees the portfolios of taxation and narcotics control.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise Muhammad Saleem Rajput, DIG Traffic Police Karachi Ahmed Nawaz, NHA, Safe City officers, and other officials.
During the meeting, Provincial Minister Chawla was briefed in detail by Secretary Excise Rajput and DIG Traffic Police Karachi Nawaz.
On this occasion, Chawla emphasized the immediate need for a joint action plan for the payment of fines related to motor vehicle taxes and traffic rule violations.
He stated that, initially, counter desks will be set up for the traffic police at the Civic Center and Facilitation Centers of the Excise Department for a one-window operation. Additionally, the timely issuance of new number plates at traffic police checkpoints will also be ensured.
The provincial minister instructed that traffic police personnel deployment at road checkpoints must be ensured. Furthermore, collaboration in integrating traffic challans and Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) taxes will be prioritized to support each other in collecting pending MVR taxes and traffic challan dues.
The Excise Department will assist the traffic police by providing records of due challans, he added.
Moreover, he announced that the transfer and tax payments of vehicles with pending challans would be conditional upon the payment of those challans.
He emphasized that through joint efforts and enhanced activation of the online system, pending MVR taxes and traffic challans will be immediately identified, and all dues will be cleared from a single point.
The minister also directed the Sindh Excise Secretary to prepare a proposal on this matter immediately.
