Safoora Taimur, the victim, was attacked on Wednesday as she was walking to school.
The unidentified man who had been following her pulled out a gun and shot her in the head, according to police, about 7:30 in the morning. The assailant then fled the scene with her phone after the shooting. Safoora Taimur died instantly when she fell to the ground.
Several news channels showed footage from a CCTV camera that showed the suspect following the teacher for some time. Before the fatal attack, the victim, who appeared to be aware that he was being followed, turned to look at him two or three times. The moment the assailant approached her, fired the fatal shot, and then fled with her phone was captured on video.
“The suspect, identified as Aun Ashraf, was employed at a law enforcement agency,” the Multan police said in a statement on Thursday.
The police responded promptly, filed a complaint at the Shah Shams police station, and began their investigation.
The incident was noticed by Central Police Officer Multan Sadiq Ali Dogar, who issued instructions to form special teams and make an arrest as well as to immediately trace and track the suspect.
The statement stated that “police teams traced the suspect using all technical resources.”
A preliminary investigation found that the suspect’s father and the victim’s father worked in the same department, so the two families became acquainted and the suspect and victim became acquainted.
The suspect had intended to wed the victim, but when the relationship fell apart, he shot and killed her with a pistol.
