In the past week, 997 new cases of dengue were discovered, bringing Punjab’s total for 2024 to 3,285.
With 134 cases, Rawalpindi remained the hardest hit, followed by Bahawalpur with three cases and Lahore with two.
One case was reported by Sheikhupura, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Attock, Kasur, Mianwali, Khanewal, Nankana Sahib, and Narowal.
After 103 new cases were reported in the city, the Punjab government declared a health emergency in Rawalpindi last week in response to concerns of an outbreak.
In the meantime, the Punjab health minister set up a district emergency response committee in Rawalpindi on Thursday with national and provincial lawmakers to keep an eye on the fight against dengue.
The public was urged to keep their surroundings dry and clean by the health department in an advisory to stop the virus from spreading.
Officials stated that preventative measures and public vigilance were essential to containing the virus’s spread throughout Punjab.
