Renowned actress Olivia Munn has spoken candidly about her “brutal” experience battling postpartum depression.
The 44-year-old actress, who welcomed her son with her husband John Mulaney in 2021, stated that postpartum depression “was more challenging than her fight with cancer.”
In a recent interview with SELF Magazine, Olivia disclosed that her anxiety escalated significantly when she “was unable to produce any breast milk.”
“When breastfeeding stops abruptly, your hormone levels plummet, and postpartum depression can hit with the force of a tornado,” the former New Girl star explained.
“And I didn’t recognize any of those signs, and I didn’t share any of that with anyone. Then, it felt like I had fallen off a cliff, and I just kept falling and falling and falling. It was more difficult than going through cancer,” Olivia elaborated.
The X-Men: Apocalypse actress likened those overwhelming emotions to the feeling of having a sprained knee, as her husband assisted her in moving “from room to room.”
“My eyes snap open at 4 am, and I’m gasping for air. I experience tightness in my chest, and it persists throughout the entire day,” she described.
“It felt like the end of the world. It was like watching the most terrifying horror movie imaginable – that’s how my body felt,” Olivia added.
