At Jack Lowe Elementary in Dallas ISD, faculty are transforming their hallways into a vibrant garden, offering students an exciting start to their school day.
Principal Crystal Cavitt explained, “We vote on a theme, and then the teachers bring it to life. Every teacher is competitive, so each year they strive to outdo themselves.”
Teacher’s aide Irene Herrera, a nine-year veteran at Jack Lowe, shared, “The students love it. It brings them so much joy.”
She spent the day climbing ladders to create the perfect environment for the students and new staff members like Nivia Naomi Moncina Perez, who recently graduated high school and is exploring a career as an aide before starting college.
“I really enjoy working with kids and teaching them. I have younger siblings, and I love spending time with them,” Perez said.
Amidst the creative process of designing and decorating, there’s a focus on how to contribute effectively to the classroom environment. Perez, who is just two months out of high school, hopes to support teachers by fostering a positive atmosphere.
“When students see you in a good mood, it helps them feel motivated and eager to learn,” she said. “I want to encourage them and make their learning experience enjoyable.”
The team hopes that the engaging artwork will capture the students’ attention and their heartfelt dedication will support the students’ growth and learning.
