Stockholm —
Sweden’s Prince Daniel and his daughter Princess Estelle joined in celebrations at the 2025 Nordic Open final, as Norwegian tennis star Casper Ruud claimed a historic victory.
Held at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm on October 19, the men’s singles final saw Ruud defeat France’s Ugo Humbert in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to become the first Norwegian player ever to win the BNP Paribas Nordic Open.
The royal father-daughter duo watched the match from the stands and applauded enthusiastically as Ruud lifted the trophy, marking a proud moment for Scandinavian tennis fans.
In his post-match speech, Ruud said:
“I’d like to congratulate Ugo for his great week — I think I played my best match of the year against you. I’m really happy but also sorry, because I knew if I didn’t play well, you’d destroy me!”
He continued,
“Winning here in Stockholm feels like a childhood dream. It’s so close to Norway, and all the legends — Federer, Nadal, Borg, McEnroe — have played here. It’s an honour to win a title in such a historic venue.”
Prince Daniel looked elegant in a navy-blue suit, while Princess Estelle wore a chic black outfit. Their appearance added a royal touch to the championship, highlighting the Swedish royals’ enduring support for international sports and Scandinavian pride.
