New details have emerged in the abduction and murder case of Mustafa Amir, a young man whose death was confirmed by police on Friday night after weeks of disappearance.
The case gained attention after the prime suspect, Armughan, opened fire on the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) team during a raid at his residence in Karachi’s DHA.
Mustafa, a BBA student, went missing on January 6. A few days later, charred human remains, presumed to be his, were found inside a burnt car near the Hub checkpost.
Investigations revealed that Armughan and Mustafa were friends but had a heated argument on New Year’s night. Following this, Armughan allegedly threatened Mustafa and his female friend.
On January 6, the day Mustafa disappeared, Armughan called him and allegedly subjected him to violence. The woman involved in the case left the country on January 12, and authorities are attempting to contact her through Interpol as her statement is crucial.
Hub police reported that they were alerted about a burning vehicle at 7 PM on January 11. Inside the car, officers found a charred body, which was transferred to Civil Hospital Hub for examination.
Faisal Edhi, head of the Edhi Foundation, stated that on January 12, Balochistan police handed over the burnt body to them. It remained in the Karachi morgue for four days before being buried in Mawachh Goth graveyard due to the lack of identification.
Further investigations revealed that the second suspect, Shiraz Bukhari alias Shavez, worked for Armughan and was involved in planning both the murder and disposal of the body. The police sought physical remand of Armughan, but an anti-terrorism court (ATC) sent him to jail, prompting the police to challenge the decision in the Sindh High Court.
DNA test results confirmed that blood stains found at Armughan’s residence matched Mustafa’s mother’s sample. Additionally, Mustafa’s mobile phone was recovered from the suspect’s house, marking a major breakthrough in the investigation.
Authorities are also seeking court permission for the exhumation of the body to gather further evidence.
