Upper Kurram:
Saeed Manan, the Assistant Commissioner of Boshehra, in Upper Kurram, was injured in a firing attack by unidentified assailants, police confirmed on Friday. This incident marks another setback in the ongoing peace efforts in the restive region.
A peace agreement was reached last month between warring tribes in the Kurram region, ensuring peace. However, the agreement faced a setback when Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud was injured in a firing incident.
Despite these setbacks, law enforcement’s efforts helped restore peace, and essential supplies began to reach Kurram, which had been cut off from the rest of the country for months.
The latest blow to peace efforts occurred today with the attack on AC Saeed Manan. Law enforcement officials stated that Manan was present in the area with police forces when he was targeted.
Manan was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. Following the attack, a heavy police contingent launched a search operation to track down the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, a grand jirga has started at the Commissioner House in Kohat to establish lasting peace in Kurram. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, and Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed are attending the jirga, which includes military officials, peace committee members, and tribal elders from both Upper and Lower Kurram.
Earlier, on January 16, a soldier was martyred, and six terrorists were killed after security forces retaliated against an attack on an aid convoy carrying essential goods to the Kurram district.
Amid ongoing peace efforts, a senior official from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government stated this week that the peace agreement would be implemented “at any cost”.
Recently, local residents have begun to experience some relief as prices for essential food items have started to ease due to the arrival of aid convoys.
The price reduction occurred with the arrival of a large vehicle carrying vegetables, further decreasing prices in local markets.
