The global phenomenon from South Korea, Squid Game, is gearing up for its third and final season.
Following the gripping events of Season 2, fans are eagerly awaiting more deadly twists, intense confrontations, and shocking betrayals.
Season 3 is expected to release in the summer or fall of 2025, aligning with the Emmy Awards nomination schedules.
According to series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, the exact release date will likely be announced soon, as filming for the season has already wrapped. In an interview, Hwang hinted that Season 3 might premiere around June 2025, making it eligible for the 2026 Emmy Awards.
Season 3 will continue the story after the explosive rebellion in the Season 2 finale. Despite their fierce efforts, the rebellion fails due to the players’ dwindling ammunition and being vastly outnumbered.
The most heart-wrenching moment in the finale was the death of Gi-hun’s trusted ally and best friend, Park Jung-bae. Series creator Hwang revealed that Jung-bae’s death was planned as the emotional crux of Season 2.
Season 3 will focus on the escalating battle between Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and the enigmatic Front Man (In-ho, aka Player 001). The Front Man, who faked his death, returns to his sinister leadership role, while Gi-hun remains unaware of the betrayal.
A mid-credits scene in the Season 2 finale confirmed the continuation of the deadly games, introducing players to a new arena featuring two giant dolls and a twisted version of “Red Light, Green Light.”
Hwang described the season as “a fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds,” promising a dramatic and emotional conclusion.
