The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has imposed a heavy fine totaling 140 million rupees (14 crore) on three state-owned power distribution companies due to their poor performance.
According to NEPRA, the fine was imposed on Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) for their poor performance during the 2023-24 period.
Officials stated that the charges against these companies—including over-billing consumers, incorrect reporting of data, and failing to improve electricity bill recoveries—were proven.
NEPRA specifically noted that GEPCO artificially showed lower losses while simultaneously overcharging its customers. According to the report, GEPCO’s actual losses reached 11.48%, whereas the target set for it was 9%.
