Author Neil Gaiman has refuted claims of sexual assault made by a former nanny, labeling them “a sham” and “invented.” He has responded to a lawsuit filed against him and his ex-wife, Amanda Palmer, by Scarlett Pavlovich, who alleges rape and assault during her employment in New Zealand in 2022. Gaiman asserts that the accusations are false and any sexual contact was consensual. He presented WhatsApp messages where Pavlovich expressed gratitude for their time together and acknowledged the consensual nature of their relationship. Gaiman’s legal team also highlighted that New Zealand police investigated and found no basis for charges. Pavlovich’s lawsuit claims human trafficking, assault, and emotional distress, alleging Palmer befriended her while she was homeless and that Gaiman assaulted her during her employment. Gaiman maintains he has never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity. Palmer’s spokesperson expressed concern for her son’s well-being and declined to comment on the allegations. Gaiman’s lawyers argue that US courts lack jurisdiction as the alleged incidents occurred in New Zealand.
