Pakistan Navy Day was observed on Monday to honor the heroes of the 1965 war who fought with courage and sacrifice against a larger adversary to defend the homeland. The day marks the bold Operation Somnath, a successful strike carried out by Pakistan Navy warships on Indian shore installations at Dwarka, which inflicted significant damage.
The submarine PNS Ghazi also played a pivotal role in the war, becoming a powerful deterrent and a symbol of operational superiority.
In their Navy Day messages, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the force for its professionalism, bravery, and contribution to national defense. The President acknowledged the Navy’s evolution into a modern, multi-dimensional force, highlighting its vigilance along Pakistan’s coastline and honoring the sacrifices of its martyrs and the resilience of its heroes.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the Navy’s success in recent operations, including Marka-e-Haq, and underscored its expanding role beyond defense, such as boosting the blue economy, developing ports, and providing humanitarian aid. He stated that the Navy’s efforts in securing maritime communication routes and providing disaster relief have enhanced Pakistan’s standing globally.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, in his Navy Day message, commended the bravery of naval personnel and reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to defending Pakistan’s maritime frontiers. He highlighted the force’s operational readiness, its role in ensuring uninterrupted seaborne trade, and its efforts to promote sustainable economic growth through the Blue Economy. The Naval Chief also announced that the second Pakistan International Maritime Exhibition and Conference will be held in Karachi from November 3 to 6.
As the nation observed Navy Day, tributes were paid to the courage, sacrifices, and lasting legacy of Pakistan Navy personnel, whose valor continues to inspire future generations.
