Karachi Kings’ right-arm quick Hassan Ali stated on Monday that the national team’s performance invariably influences the popularity of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), urging players to win back disappointed cricket enthusiasts through strong on-field displays.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Karachi Kings’ inaugural practice session for the 10th edition of the PSL, Hassan acknowledged that while Pakistan’s recent cricketing outcomes have been disheartening, the team’s newer players require time to establish themselves.
“When the national team doesn’t perform well, it impacts franchise leagues like the PSL,” Hassan commented. “Conversely, when Pakistan performs well, the PSL’s popularity also increases.”
Pakistan has faced struggles in recent months, including a lackluster performance at the ICC Champions Trophy on home soil and during their tour of New Zealand.
However, Hassan expressed his support for the newer players, saying: “The current results aren’t ideal, but we have fresh faces in the team and also within the management who need time to settle. The players are aware of their shortcomings and areas for improvement.”
The experienced pacer emphasized the crucial role of senior players in the upcoming tournament to reignite the passion of the fans. “Our people have a deep love for cricket, and the fans are very passionate. We will strive to make them happy with our performances.”
Despite this year’s PSL coinciding with the Indian Premier League (IPL), Hassan remained optimistic, stating: “Fans gravitate towards tournaments that offer quality cricket and entertainment. If we perform well in the PSL, viewers will choose to watch us over the IPL.”
He highlighted the league’s significance in nurturing young talent, describing it as a “major platform” for emerging players to share dressing rooms with top-tier cricketers. “Performing well in the PSL definitely catches the attention of selectors and management — there’s no doubt about that.”
Hassan, who recently demonstrated a strong return to form in domestic cricket, pledged to maintain his momentum. “I performed well in the National T20 Cup recently and will aim to continue that form. This PSL is important for me as I aspire to make a comeback to the national team, and as Karachi Kings, we will do our utmost to bring Karachi’s cricket fans back to the stadium.”
The PSL is scheduled to commence on the 11th of this month, with Karachi Kings set to play their opening match against Multan Sultans on the 12th.
