The identity of “Lucy” in the song “The Tortured Poets Department” has been revealed!
US singer Lucy Dacus has confirmed that she is the “Lucy” referenced in the title track of the pop sensation’s eleventh studio album.
The question of who “Lucy” was has been a major topic of discussion on social media since Taylor Swift sang the name, with fans and friends speculating about her identity.
According to PEOPLE magazine, Lucy Dacus of Boygenius verified that she is the person being discussed, stating, “I think it’s fair game to say ‘yes’. She actually texted me and asked for my approval.”
The lyrics in question, from the song “The Tortured Poets Department,” include the lines:
“Sometimes, I wonder if you’re gonna screw this up with me / But you told Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave / And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen / Everyone we know understands why it’s meant to be / ‘Cause we’re crazy.”
It is widely believed that this song is about Taylor Swift’s brief romance with The 1975’s musician, Matty Healy, in 2023.
Additionally, fans speculate that the “Jack” mentioned in the lyrics is Grammy-winning producer and friend, Jack Antonoff, although this has not been officially confirmed.
