A wave of concern has spread after a large number of birds were found dead under mysterious circumstances at Major Khalid Shaheed Park in Karachi’s Defence area. Renowned singer and musician Bilal Maqsood brought the grim situation to light by sharing photos and videos on his Instagram account, showing dozens of dead crows and kites scattered across the park.
In his post, Bilal Maqsood expressed his shock, stating that while he had been seeing 2 to 3 dead crows in the park daily for the past few days, “today was unbelievable.”
“There were about 50-60 dead crows today, with some barely alive. I also saw 2 large dead eagles,” the singer wrote. He tagged CBC Clifton and WWF, urging them to take notice of the distressing incident.
In response to the situation, Horticulture Society spokesperson Rafi-ul-Haq suggested a possible cause. He noted that crows and kites often get their food from garbage dumps and speculated that the birds might have died from food poisoning after consuming something toxic from the trash.
However, the mystery deepened when the Sindh Wildlife Department staff visited the park. By the time they arrived, the garbage dumps had reportedly been cleaned, leaving them unable to find any evidence of poisoning. Officials also stated that they did not find any dead crows or kites in the park during their visit.
