Mumbai: The Indian government has announced that veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty will be awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian cinema, recognizing his remarkable contributions to the industry.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, proudly shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I am delighted to announce that legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding services to Indian cinema. This award will be presented on October 8 at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony.”
In an emotional response to the announcement, Mithun Chakraborty expressed, “I am at a loss for words to describe my feelings. I am incredibly happy and dedicate this award to my family and my fans.”
Having spent 48 years in the Bollywood industry, Chakraborty began his illustrious career with the 1976 film “Mrigayaa.” He is also renowned for starring in the first Indian film to cross the ₹100 crore mark, “Disco Dancer.”
