KABUL: Afghanistan’s Defense Minister, Mullah Yaqoob, has strongly dismissed claims of any Indian involvement in the recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In an interview with Arab media, he stressed that Afghanistan and Pakistan are neighbors and their relations should be based on mutual respect, stating that “tension is not in anyone’s interest.”
Mullah Yaqoob called for adherence to agreements, warning that while Afghanistan is fully compliant, “problems will arise if Pakistan does not fulfill its responsibilities.” He also called on the mediating countries, Turkiye and Qatar, to help ensure the agreement is implemented.
He categorically rejected the notion of an Indian role, affirming, “Our policy has never included using our soil against other countries.” He added that Afghanistan, as an independent country, will maintain its relations with India based on national interest, just as it seeks to “enhance relations” with Pakistan rather than create tension.
