MQM Strongly Condemns Illegal Raids on Party Workers’ Homes in Hyderabad
Coordination Committee accuses Sindh government and police of political victimization
Karachi: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has strongly condemned what it describes as politically motivated and unlawful raids conducted by the Sindh Police on the homes of its innocent workers in Hyderabad. According to the party’s Coordination Committee, these raids followed a peaceful rally organized by the Hyderabad Lawyers Forum to protest the construction of six proposed canals which, MQM claims, pose a serious threat to Sindh’s share of water.
The rally, attended by thousands of citizens alongside MQM workers, aimed to raise awareness about the environmental and economic dangers posed by these canals. The party stated that the proposed projects threaten Sindh’s ecological balance, agricultural sustainability, and the livelihood of its people.
MQM has accused the Sindh government of using the police force to intimidate and harass political opponents, calling it a blatant violation of democratic norms, human rights, and constitutional freedoms. “What should have been a voice for water rights has been met with state repression,” the statement read.
The party demands an immediate end to the illegal raids, the release of all detained workers, and judicial action against those responsible for these acts of harassment, including police officers and government officials.
MQM reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful democratic struggle and stated that it would continue to raise its voice for Sindh’s water rights and constitutional supremacy. “We will not bow down, we will not be silenced, and we will not give up,” the party declared.
