The Met Office has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall in Karachi next week, as a monsoon system is expected to enter Sindh from India’s Gujarat on the night of August 17. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated that rain is anticipated in various parts of Sindh from August 18 to 23. The department predicts that Karachi will likely experience one or two spells of rain during this period.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather alert for heavy monsoon rains across several cities, including Lahore, during the Independence Day celebrations. According to PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, the seventh monsoon spell has begun and will last until August 21.
The DG noted that this spell is significantly more intense than previous ones and could bring heavy rainfall to both the river catchment areas and the plains of Punjab. He also mentioned that monsoon showers are expected to coincide with religious events such as Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), affecting most districts of the province.
