Lakesha Woods Williams, a 29-year-old mother from west Houston, was arrested for allegedly leaving her 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter alone at home while she went on a cruise. She faces charges of abandoning a child with intent to return.
Neighbors in her luxury high-rise apartment building raised concerns when they witnessed Williams leaving with luggage on April 4 and not returning. Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office deputies conducted a welfare check on Tuesday and found the children alone in a disarrayed apartment with remnants of food and a strong smell of urine.
The children informed deputies that their mother had left for a cruise. Prosecutors highlighted the danger the children faced, emphasizing the potential risks of being unsupervised for an extended period.
The children were deemed in good health by firefighters and were released to their aunt by Child Protective Services. Williams flew back from Miami, where she had boarded a cruise to Puerto Rico, and initially provided false information about her identity upon her return home.
