Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has stated his aim to deliver strong performances in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) to secure a recall to the national team for this year’s Asia Cup.
In an interview with Geo News, the 25-year-old speedster, who represents Multan Sultans in the franchise tournament, highlighted the league’s role as a vital platform for emerging talent. He spoke to the media on the sidelines of his team’s training session in Karachi, ahead of the 10th PSL edition commencing on April 11.
“My goal is straightforward — perform to the best of my ability in the PSL and make a compelling case for Asia Cup selection,” Hasnain said, his focus firmly set on a potential return to international cricket after experiencing periods in and out of the Pakistan side since his debut in 2019.
The right-arm fast bowler, capable of bowling at speeds exceeding 140 kilometers per hour, emphasized that he wasn’t specifically targeting individual batsmen but rather concentrating on delivering consistent performances to help Multan Sultans reclaim the PSL title they last won in 2021.
Hasnain mentioned that the squad had completed an intensive four-day training camp in Multan before relocating to Karachi, where they are currently fine-tuning their strategies for the upcoming tournament.
“The preparations have been thorough — we have a well-balanced squad, and I am confident that we can achieve strong results,” he said, adjusting his team cap under the Karachi sun.
The bowler, who previously played for Quetta Gladiators, underscored the PSL’s significance by saying, “For young players, it serves as a crucial gateway to international cricket – I am a testament to that. For experienced players, it offers an opportunity to stage comebacks.”
Acknowledging the passionate following for cricket in Pakistan, Hasnain remarked, “When the team underperforms, it deeply affects the fans. However, the crowds in Karachi are special – they have lifted us in crucial matches in the past.”
He reminisced about playing in front of packed stadiums during previous PSL seasons, noting how the local support often proves to be a decisive factor in closely contested games.
Earlier, captain Mohammad Rizwan, who joined the squad earlier today, addressed the team on Wednesday. Hasnain revealed the wicketkeeper-batter’s clear directive: “He emphasized that the performances of local players will be crucial if we are to win the championship.”
The Sultans are scheduled to begin their campaign against the former champions, Karachi Kings, in Karachi on April 12.
