Arlington was buzzing with excitement on Monday morning as Major League Baseball and Texas Rangers dignitaries gathered at the former Senter Park to unveil the newly renovated MLB/Texas Rangers All-Star Legacy Park.
Addressing the crowd, former Texas Rangers Hall of Famer and General Manager Tom Grieve reminisced about his son Tim playing Optimist baseball on the original fields at Senter Park.
This Arlington initiative, a collaboration between MLB Together and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, is part of the All-Star Week festivities and includes two revitalized youth fields in the DFW area. The other field is located in West Dallas.
MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred highlighted the significance of the Legacy program during All-Star Week, emphasizing its role in giving back to host communities like Arlington.
The upgraded park, nestled near Globe Life Field, features enhanced ballfields, shaded bleachers, and the Corey Seager Batting Cages. Corey Seager, the World Series MVP and All-Star player, was present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Arlington Mayor Jim Ross praised the transformation of the park, describing it as a fantastic venue where children can create lasting memories.
The inaugural users of the revamped fields were kids from the MLB Play Ball program, providing them with a taste of playing on a field that mirrors a major league experience, as highlighted by Grieve.
