North Texas will experience some mild weather before bitter cold heads into Dallas-Fort Worth later this week.
Highs on Monday will reach into the middle 60s, with low temperatures from the mid-40s to the lower 50s, the weather service said.
A big drop in temperatures will come Wednesday, when an arctic cold front rolls through, the National Weather Service in Fort Worth said.
The weather service issued a winter storm watch for D-FW from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday. Up to two inches of snow is possible, and icy road conditions are expected. Sleet is likely across North Texas, the weather service said.
Governor Greg Abbott said that he will hold a news conference Tuesday ahead of the severe winter weather.

During a winter storm watch, roads and bridges are likely to ice over, making travel during a winter storm hazardous, the weather service said. Ice is also likely to accumulate on power lines and tree branches, which could cause power outages.
This cold front will bring rain all day Wednesday, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported, with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. Temperatures will drop below freezing Wednesday night, NBC5 said.
North Texas will likely experience freezing rain and sleet late Wednesday into early Thursday, and snow is possible Thursday afternoon, NBC5 reported.
The weather service said “dangerously cold” wind chills will be expected Thursday and Friday mornings, with possibilities in the zero and single digits.
