Just days after the release of a scathing investigative report, Michael Tait has publicly admitted to long-standing accusations of sexual misconduct, substance abuse, and grooming. The 59-year-old former frontman of DC Talk and Newsboys broke his silence on Tuesday with an Instagram statement titled “My Confession,” where he corroborated the core of the allegations initially brought forth by The Roys Report following a two-and-a-half-year investigation.
As per Daily Mail, Tait penned, “Recent reports of my reckless and destructive behavior… are sadly, largely, true,” acknowledging over two decades of cocaine and alcohol addiction, as well as making “unwanted sensual” advances toward men. He expressed profound shame and accepted full accountability, labeling his actions as “sin” and affirming, “I don’t blame anyone or anything but myself.”
Furthermore, Tait had discreetly departed from The Newsboys in January, a decision he now states was to embark on his recovery journey. He disclosed that he spent six weeks at a treatment facility in Utah and has maintained sobriety since. Additionally, he confessed, “I was living a double life,” adding that he had deceived not only fans and friends but also his family and bandmates.
While Tait mentioned he might dispute certain specifics of the report, he did not refute its overall essence. In his heartfelt statement, he apologized to those he had harmed, embraced the repercussions of his actions, and pledged to continue his healing process away from public scrutiny. He concluded with a verse from Psalm 51, a biblical prayer of repentance, stating it has guided him during what he described as six months of “utter brokenness” and spiritual introspection.
