Actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant, now known for their on-screen chemistry in the series Good Omens, were not always friends. Sheen revealed in a recent interview that they were rivals in their early careers, often competing for the same roles.
Sheen recalled, “We knew each other but not well, maybe that’s because we were often up for the same part.” He specifically mentioned the BBC drama Casanova, a coveted role that Tennant ultimately secured. Despite this early competition, their relationship has evolved, and they have become good friends, particularly while working together on Good Omens.
“When people talk about having chemistry, you just feel very lucky,” Sheen said. He explained that both actors share a similar approach to their craft and are committed to making a scene work as well as possible. Sheen added that he is still deeply moved by what the show means to its fans.
The future of Good Omens is now uncertain. The show, which is based on a novel by creator Neil Gaiman, is set to conclude after its second season following allegations made against him. A similar situation led to the conclusion of Gaiman’s other show, The Sandman.
When asked if the final episode of Good Omens would air, Sheen said, “It’s not up to me… I’m not in control but the episode is made and hopefully the people will enjoy it as and when.”
