The Unfading Global Appeal of the King of Pop
HOLLYWOOD – The biopic ‘Michael,’ which chronicles the life of the undisputed King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has already made cinematic history before its official release. The film’s first trailer has shattered two major records, proving that the iconic singer’s global influence and magnetic appeal endure with millions of fans worldwide decades later.
According to View Metrics data, the film’s trailer garnered over 116 million views in a single day, claiming two significant titles:
- Lionsgate’s Most-Watched Trailer: The ‘Michael’ trailer became the most-viewed trailer in a single day in the history of Lionsgate studios, setting a new benchmark for the production house.
- Global Music Biopic Record: Furthermore, the film’s trailer surpassed Taylor Swift’s popular ‘The Eras Tour’ to become the most-watched music biopic trailer of all time.
Focus on Music, Exclusion of Controversy
The role of Michael Jackson in the film is played by his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, whose uncanny resemblance and performance have generated excitement among fans. However, the production has clearly stated its narrative focus: the biopic will concentrate exclusively on the challenges and triumphs of his illustrious musical career, deliberately excluding the various private life controversies and legal allegations that plagued his later years.
The highly anticipated biopic was originally scheduled for an October 3, 2025 release. Following production delays, the film is now set to hit theatres globally on April 24, 2026.
