Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz delivered a sharp critique of the opposition’s political conduct and governance record during a speech marking the launch of a new mass transit project in Gujranwala. Her address strategically blended major development announcements with severe political attacks.
Addressing a recent favorable decision for PML-N (“Lion”) in Haripur, Maryam Nawaz asserted that the result was simply due to the opponent’s “incompetence” rather than genuine competition. She challenged the opposition’s decade-long rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), questioning why 12 years of continuous governance had failed to produce any visible development for the public.
The Chief Minister heavily criticized the political style of the opposition leaders, referencing the previous KP Chief Minister for “attacking” Punjab and the current one for prioritizing sit-ins outside Adiala Jail. She also slammed those who, during their four years in power, allegedly spent their time celebrating the possibility of Pakistan defaulting.
Pivotting to her party’s achievements, CM Nawaz highlighted the development legacy of the Sharif family, mentioning their involvement in projects ranging from the atom bomb to motorways. Following this legacy, she announced the immediate start of work on two new metropolitan rail projects in Gujranwala and Faisalabad. She also cited ongoing major infrastructure works, including a Rs. 30 billion sewerage line project in Gujarat and the active construction of 120,000 housing units across the province.
