Islamabad: At a sensitive time when Pakistan Hockey is striving to reclaim its global stature, severe administrative differences have erupted between the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and the national team’s Head Coach, Tahir Zaman. Sources indicate that the dispute has intensified, leading the Head Coach to threaten resignation from his position.
Sources revealed that due to these disagreements, Tahir Zaman has refused to travel to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, with the national hockey team. The core issue behind the rift reportedly involves the selection of two specific players, who reported to the training camp after the designated deadline had passed. The Head Coach is firm in his stance against including these players in the squad.
The PHF, on its part, is actively attempting to mediate with the Head Coach and resolve the internal conflict quickly to prevent any negative impact on the team’s performance in upcoming international tournaments. Sources suggest that should Tahir Zaman resign from his post, the Federation would look to secure the services of a foreign coach before the crucial Pro League event.
This situation is a major blow to Pakistan Hockey, particularly after Tahir Zaman himself recently stated that “The players have proven that Pakistan Hockey still has life.” The current administrative crisis risks severely disrupting the team’s preparations for international competitions.
