WASHINGTON / BERN:
US Trade Representative Jamison Greer has announced the finalization of a significant and constructive trade agreement between the United States and Switzerland, a deal expected to reshape the economic relationship between the two nations. This agreement is being hailed as a positive example of cooperation amidst a global environment marked by trade tensions.
According to the US Trade Representative, a key objective of this agreement is to reduce the US trade surplus. To achieve this, Switzerland will increase its export of manufactured goods to the United States. The core sectors included in the agreement are highly relevant to both economies: pharmaceuticals, gold, and railway equipment.
The Swiss government confirmed the details of the agreement, highlighting a substantial reduction in US tariffs imposed on Switzerland. Swiss officials stated that the previously enforced 39 percent additional US tariffs would be reduced to 15 percent.
The Swiss government specifically praised and thanked President Trump for his constructive role in facilitating the deal. This agreement is expected to benefit both countries’ economies and underscores the potential for resolving complex global trade issues through dialogue and mutual consensus, rather than confrontation.
