Explosive new facts have emerged concerning the assassination of Canadian Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar and the alleged conspiracy to murder US citizen Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York. These revelations clarify the root causes of the severe diplomatic crisis between India and its key Western allies, particularly the US and Canada.
Intelligence Assessment:
A new report by Western media claims that the analysis by US intelligence agencies suggested that the orders to plot the assassination of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun were likely issued at the highest levels in India, potentially involving individuals within the inner circle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Officials in the White House and State Department were reportedly shocked and dismayed that India, a country they had tried to nurture as an ally, could even conceive of such an act—an assassination plot targeting a US citizen on American soil. Canadian officials were experiencing similar concerns regarding how to demand accountability for Nijjar’s murder. Separate Canadian investigations had also concluded that elements of the Indian state were behind Nijjar’s assassination.
‘RAW’ Operation and Surveillance Details:
The report reveals details of the alleged surveillance on Pannun. It was easy to track Pannun’s daily schedule, which was limited to movements between his home, office, gym, and a cafe in Queens, New York. The surveillance team reportedly took photos documenting his routine, including leaving his home and relaxing after exercise.
Nikhil Gupta, an alleged monitor sitting in New Delhi with reported ties to drug trafficking and an officer from India’s external intelligence agency, ‘RAW’, was monitoring the situation. The RAW officer allegedly assured Gupta that if he could solve this “complex problem” (eliminating Pannun) overseas, all his criminal cases would be dropped, and he would face no further harassment.
Using Nijjar’s Murder as a Warning:
In May 2023, Gupta allegedly directed his US contact to hire a hitman to kill Pannun. Days later, upon establishing contact with the alleged killer, Gupta issued the order: “Brother, finish Pannun, don’t take too long, finish his job as soon as possible.”
A few hours after Nijjar’s murder on June 8, the RAW officer allegedly sent Gupta a video clip showing the body of the shot victim (Hardeep Singh Nijjar) in a pickup truck. Gupta forwarded this video to his contact in New York, warning that Pannun would become more cautious following the murder of his friend in Canada, and therefore, the opportunity should not be lost, and a “result must be achieved at all costs.”
India’s Stance and Diplomatic Fallout:
The situation was complex for Western nations because they intended to use India as a strategic ally against China.
The Indian government has dismissed the Canadian allegations regarding Nijjar’s killing as “absurd.” However, under increasing pressure from Washington regarding the Pannun case, an inquiry committee was formed in consultation with the US, though its findings remain undisclosed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made veiled references to India’s right to target those it considers its enemies. Referencing the Mumbai attacks in April, he said that while previous governments only submitted dossiers, “today India finishes terrorists in their own territory,” a statement that is being interpreted as an admission of his agencies’ alleged actions globally.
