ISLAMABAD – In a significant move to advance Pakistan’s development agenda through sustainable, inclusive, and environmentally robust initiatives, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has greenlit 18 projects across critical sectors including agriculture, energy, health, and transport.
Of these, 12 projects valued at 35.40 billion rupees were approved at the CDWP level. Six larger, high-impact projects, carrying a substantial cost of 280.20 billion rupees, were referred to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval due to their massive scale.
A strong emphasis was placed on revitalizing agriculture, recognized as the backbone of the economy and the foundation of national food security. The flagship “Punjab Resilient and Inclusive Agriculture Transformation” (PRIAT) project, valued at 68.67 billion rupees, was forwarded to ECNEC. This initiative, jointly funded by the World Bank and the Punjab government, aims to foster climate-resilient and community-based modern farming.
Similarly, the “Punjab Climate Resilient and Low Carbon Agriculture Mechanization Project” (P-CLAMP), an Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded initiative costing 36.12 billion rupees, was also referred to ECNEC.
To enhance the country’s livestock exports and meet global health standards, a 7.35 billion rupee program for animal disease surveillance and control was approved.
Furthermore, advancing the governance reform agenda, the 3.08 billion rupee “Punjab Resource Improvement and Digital Effectiveness” (PRIDE) program was also approved.
