LONDON – Actress Lucy Fallon, known for her role as Bethany Platt on the popular ITV soap opera Coronation Street, has declared her commitment to the series, stating she has no plans to depart the show again. The 29-year-old, who first joined the cast in 2015 before leaving in 2020 to pursue external projects like the drama Tom Jones, returned in 2023 and now finds the consistency and familiar environment too appealing to leave.
In an interview with Fabulous magazine, Fallon explained her decision: “I don’t plan on leaving Corrie to do other things. In the past, I wanted to try maybe a drama – and I did that in the time that I was away – but [elsewhere] you don’t get the friendships.”
The TV personality, who is a mother to two young children with partner Ryan Ledson, emphasized the appeal of a stable professional life. “I’ve gone back and it’s so familiar. I feel so comfortable, it’s consistent, I get to drive from home to work and then go back home to my children,” she noted, highlighting the benefit of a familiar set environment.
Reality TV Ambitions and Potential New Storylines
While committed to Coronation Street, Fallon expressed a desire for brief leaves of absence to participate in reality TV. She stated she would “love” to take part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! as a “life experience,” though acknowledged that a stint on Strictly Come Dancing would be more complicated due to its affiliation with the BBC.
Fallon also offered a thought-provoking idea for a future storyline for her character, Bethany Platt, suggesting a focus on the controversial social trend of weight-loss medication.
“Weight-loss jabs would be a really good one, because I know so many people who don’t need to be taking weight-loss jabs that are, and it’s something that [Bethany] would 100% do,” she said. Fallon concluded by voicing her concern about the trend, stating: “It’s scary. It [feels like we’re] going back to the Kate Moss vibes,” referring to the pressures of unattainable body standards. This proposition indicates her interest in bringing relevant, high-impact social commentary to the soap opera’s narrative.
